Sister Mary DeNeri Faase

Sister DeNeri Faase was born in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in New York. She entered the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy in 1936 and made her first profession in 1939. She received a bachelor's degree from Hunter College, New York, and a master's degree in library science from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She taught at Bishop England High School and for many years at St. Angela Academy in Aiken, where she also served as principal and librarian. After leaving Aiken she lived in Sumter and taught adult education classes at night and tutored in the literacy program there. She continued her work as a literacy tutor in Charleston, where she now resides at May Forest. Her brother, Father Albert Faase, was ordained by Bishop Emmett Walsh in 1937 and served for many years. He died in 1997 and is buried in Beaufort. (Source.)
